A security expert recently announced that he will demonstrate how Javascript can be used to ascertain stored passwords from systems running Firefox at next weeks Black Hat Conference.
The expert said common XSS tools are all that are needed to obtain passwords from the browser's password manager. Simply visiting a website that contains the XSS malware can make a users system susceptible to an attack, Network World relays.
Mozillas Firefox isnt the only browser with vulnerabilities, as the security researcher also announced he will show how Microsofts Internet Explorer can be exploited to reveal a users first name, last name, aliases, email addresses and physical address.
Network World advises users to delete their passwords on Mozilla as a way to safeguard their information from cyber criminals. In addition, users should update their antivirus software to ensure they have the latest malware protection.
Last week, Mozilla alerted users of a password-stealing add-on that had been downloaded nearly 2,000 times before it had been detected. The add-on contained a malicious code that relayed password information to a remote location.
